Andrea Mitchell

Andrea Mitchell, an American journalist and commentator, who works with NBC News in Washington D.C., is a television anchor. She graduated with an Bachelor of Arts degree in English Literature at the University of Pennsylvania after growing up in New York City. Mitchell started working as a TV and radio reporter in Philadelphia, KYW Radio and TV. Mitchell joined CBS station WDVM-TV (then WTOP) in Washington DC in 1976. Within two years she was hired by NBC News as a Washington reporter. She began covering the White House in 1981 and was named chief correspondent for the congressional office by 1988. Mitchell became the Chief White House reporter in 1992 as well as chief foreign affairs correspondent at NBC News. Mitchell has appeared as the host and panelist for the TV news show Meet the Press. She was a member of an advisory panel during the 1988 presidential debates featuring George Bush (then president) as well as Michael Dukakis. Mitchell is married to Alan Greenspan former chairman of the Federal Reserve Board. Mitchell was awarded the Goldsmith Career Award in Journalism in 2005 at the John F. Kennedy School of Government. The Radio-Television News Directors Association awarded Mitchell Leonard Zeidenberg Award in 2004 for her work in protecting First Amendment Freedoms. Mitchell was a reporter at in the White House first for NBC News between the years 1981-88, which was in the two years that Ronald Reagan served as president. Mitchell was a reporter on a range of noteworthy stories, such as the Iran-Contra scandal, the tax reforms to the budget as well as arms control. Mitchell traveled together with Reagan on numerous occasions to meet with Reagan several times to attend summits and discuss matters including and the Iran Contra controversy.
